I . P . Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 ( IPC ) addresses the offence of rash or negligent driving or riding on a public way. In an era marked by increasing vehicular density and a corresponding rise in road accidents, this provision assumes critical importance in the Indian criminal justice system.
