It premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and was also screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Phoolan Devi was the bandit queen of India. She had humble, difficult beginnings, and she later rose to fame as an outlaw, dacoit, and a politician.
