Sixth century B.C. was an important era in history. This was the period when a great benefactor of mankind was born and became renowned as Gotama the Buddha . The Buddha rediscovered the path of Dhamma leading to the eradication of universal suffering. According to Buddhist tradition, the Buddha taught a Middle Way between sensual indulgence and severe asceticism, [10] leading to freedom from ignorance, craving, rebirth, and suffering. Who is Buddha ? Buddha , originally named Siddhartha Gautama, is revered as the founder of Buddhism and an influential spiritual leader and philosopher. Born around the 6th century B.C. in Lumbini, present-day Nepal, Siddhartha belonged to the Shakya clan. Widely observed teachings include the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, and the doctrines of dependent origination, karma, and the three marks of existence. Other commonly observed elements include the Triple Gem, the taking of monastic vows, and the cultivation of perfections (pāramitā). [20]
