A fierce form of ‘Shakti’, the temple is built for the goddess ‘Chamundi’, one of the avatars of Durga or Parvati. Chamunda (Sanskrit: चामुण्डा, IAST: Cāmuṇḍā), also known as Chamundeshwari , Chamundi or Charchika, is a fearsome form of Chandi, the Hindu mother goddess, Mahadevi and is one of the seven Matrikas. The two temples are retained in the midst of M.G.Road. It is learnt that the above two temples were built during the period of Dewan Poorniah.
