" Chapri " is a very disturbing cultural usage. Where does it come from? Is it a recent term? Does it have base in any existing language (s)? I understand the meaning it tries to convey, but what I don't understand is why it is thrown around so casually and treated as if it's any different from, say, casteist slurs. The name Chapri trend is something "we watch foreign movies and can speak English" Crowd came up with. They are just loud folks with a weird sense of fashion, something that is not everybody's cup of tea. Chapri originated as a casteist slur with origins in the word "chappar", a caste of roof menders and weavers. Chappar has its roots in kaccha houses or huts. The frequency and casual nature of its use never ceases to baffle me. People are often shunned for using other casteist "insults" and yet somehow this one got imbibed into tiktok shaming lingo Has the views of a traditional indian boy about everything be it women, conflict resolution or anything else. Non Fans A random chapri boy who rose to fame making derrogatory comments about other religions and gender. Won BB season and has a great fan following. Reply reply WalkstheTalk •
