What is a FIDE Rating? FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) is the world governing body for chess. A FIDE rating is an internationally recognized measure of a player’s strength, calculated from games played in official FIDE-rated tournaments. It allows you to benchmark your skills, track progress, and enter prestigious events worldwide. Access the FIDE Ratings Database for chess rankings, player profiles, and advanced search options. We track live ratings and rankings of the world’s top players. You’ll also find a 10M game archive, player stats, tournaments, Stockfish analysis, and FIDE Top 100 lists going back to 1967. The August 2025 FIDE rating list was primarily influenced by the Women’s World Cup in Batumi, the Biel International Chess Festival and several other tournaments across Europe. The top 10 in the Open section remained unchanged from July, with the only exception being Wei Yi, who gained 5 rating points in his match against Levon Aronian.
