IGIMS was established on 19th November 1983, as an autonomous organisation on the pattern of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences ( IGIMS ) is a top independent medical institution founded in 1983 by the Government of Bihar, situated in Patna . IGIMS is located on Bailey Road. The whole medical college and hospital campus is spread over an area of 131 acres. [3] The hospital is proposed to have 3000 beds in the coming few years. [4] At present, there are nearly 1070 beds present with a 100-bed Regional Cancer Institute. Construction is ongoing of another 500-bed ultra modern hospital, and 200-bed Regional Institute of Ophthalmology. [5] IGIMS Patna actively promotes research and academic development by collaborating with multiple national and international institutions. These collaborations are designed to foster innovation, enhance knowledge, and contribute to the advancement of medical science.
