From my understanding Igris was a lot stronger than Jin Woo even after he leveled up to a certain extent, and the way it was depicted Jin Woo only won because Igris took it easy on him. Baruka was in the same position and was stronger than Jin Woo, but he wasn't able to extract the shadow. I know that the strength of the shadow and the time a monster has been dead influence the chances of a successful extraction, but what else? Really feel like Baruka should've been in the squad.
