Lachit Borphukan was born into the Tai-Ahom aristocracy around 1622 or thereabouts. Under King Pratap Singha, the Ahom kingdom's first Borbarua (a position of great influence) was his father, Momai Tamuli Borbarua, a well-known nobleman.
