Maihar is a rural city in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, known for its temples, music, and history. It is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Goddess Parvati and the birthplace of the Maihar Gharana of Hindustani music. Maihar Mata Temple is a famous religious place in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, where Maa Sharda is worshipped as the necklace of Sati. The temple is located on a hill and has a ropeway, a mundan facility and a history of devotion and miracles. It is said that when Lord Shiva was carrying the body of the dead Mother Goddess (Mai in Hindi) Sati, her necklace (Har in Hindi) fell at this place and hence the name “ Maihar ” ( Maihar = Mai + Har, meaning “Maa necklace”).
