Conceived as India’s GPS, IRNSS-NavIC is India’s regional satellite navigation system covering the whole of India and 1500 km from its boundaries. NavIC was erstwhile known as Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS). NavIC is designed with a constellation of 7 satellites and a network of ground stations operating 24 x 7. NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) is an autonomous satellite navigation system that provides accurate real-time positioning and timing services in India and its region. It consists of a constellation of eight satellites in geostationary and geosynchronous orbits, and offers two levels of service: standard and restricted.
