St. Thomas Mount in Chennai and Little Mount in Chennai are areas where St. Thomas, the apostle was believed to have lived. Parangimalai (known in English as St. Thomas Mount) is a small hillock in the Chennai district of Tamil Nadu, India, near the neighbourhood of Guindy and very close to Chennai International Airport. The long-awaited MRTS train service between Velachery and St. Thomas Mount is expected to commence operations by May this year. The extension project, initiated in 2008 to connect Chennai Beach to Velachery via St. Thomas Mount, faced multiple delays due to land acquisition disputes and legal challenges. Once commissioned, the Velachery–St. Thomas Mount MRTS line will offer faster connectivity between southern and central Chennai, reducing traffic congestion and complementing existing Metro and MRTS routes. This long-pending link will serve as a crucial intermodal hub, enhancing commuter convenience and contributing to a more integrated public transport system for the city.
