Dr. Tessy Thomas, known as the Missile Woman of India, is renowned for her pivotal role in developing the Agni-IV and Agni-V missiles. She holds advanced degrees in engineering and missile technology. The first woman to head an Indian missile project, Tessy Thomas has decisively broken the glass ceiling to make her mark in a traditionally male bastion. Thomas spearheaded the team to develop an energy management guidance scheme, the first time in the country, for a long-range system. In her 32 years with Agni missiles, Thomas has contributed in various areas, including guidance, control, inertial navigation, trajectory simulation and mission design. Tessy Thomas led the Agni programme of India's nuclear-capable missiles, which included the Agni-III, Agni-IV, and Agni-V. Her work on missile technologies, particularly her expertise in solid propellant systems, contributed greatly to India's defence capabilities.
