Protocol, in computer science, a set of rules or procedures for transmitting data between electronic devices, such as computers. In order for computers to exchange information, there must be a preexisting agreement as to how the information will be structured and how each side will send and receive. What is Network Protocol? A network protocol is a set of rules that govern data communication between different devices in the network. It determines what is being communicated, how it is being communicated, and when it is being communicated. Protocol, in computers and technology, is a broad definition used to describe any standard set of rules that enables communication between systems, devices, or software. Computer protocols ensure successful data transmission by defining steps and processes for communication between systems. A set of cooperating network protocols is called a protocol suite. The Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite, which is typically used in client-server models, includes numerous protocols across layers, such as the data, network, transport and application layers, working together to enable internet connectivity.
